Trinity Sound

This is the name of our Church music group, which has existed for getting on for 20 years in one form or another. They are quite versatile and play almost anything from classical, popular and of course worship music to accompany the wide variety of events that occur in the life of a vibrant church. In addition they occaisonally get out on the road and play in other churches or social concerts. In particular they regularly provide the music for the all age worship on the first Sunday morning of every month.

There have been quite a few changes in group members over the years but John Mountford and Roger Thomas, both on keyboards and Roger Bafico, on percussion, have been ever present. Katherine Mills and Rachael Lloyd are two accomplished woodwind players providing a variety of sound on clarinets and saxophone. Jon Lloyd is a recent recruit to the group and plays guitar as well as occasionally taking some vocals. We sometimes have help from others including Val Savigar, percussion, Ray Savigar, sound control, Graham Worthington, electric piano and Brian Shier-Jones on bass/guitar - just to mention a few.

Two past members of the group deserve special mention. Angela Shier-Jones (now Rev. Dr.) sang with the group and was always enthusiastic and committed and Jon Bray, who played guitar but sadly had to move away with his work.

Trinity Sound continues to flourish and always endeavours to provide suitable music to enable the Church to worship and praise God and serve the work of God in the local community.

Roger Thomas
Trinity Banner group

Trinity banner group started about 1997 to make banners for our new multi-purpose hall as we felt the need to create a more worshipful atmosphere for the occasions when the hall was used for worship.

As we approached the new millennium there was much talk of the need for big parties to celebrate.  We felt the need to remind people that the reasons for celebrating were 2000 years of Christianity.  So we spent two years making our millennium banner [which is actually 12 banners fixed together to make a story board].  It aims to tell the story of the development and effect of 2000 years of Christianity in Britain and the world.

Since then we have made other banners to enhance different areas of our building.  We have made banners for the South Wales Network group - [the umbrella organisation of women in the Methodist Church] - which have been displayed in various parts of the country including a World conference of Methodist women.  We have made banners to help schools with their Christian assemblies.

We use various techniques when making our banners.  As a small friendly group of enthusiasts we have differing gifts and interests and we try to utilise them to the best of our abilities.

We continue to meet on a Monday morning in the Church premises and are always looking for newcomers to join us as everyone has different ideas.  At the moment we are working on banners to celebrate 20 years of women's work in the Methodist Church.  Have you got an interest in sewing, drawing, painting or any other craft skill?  We'd love you to join us.  E-mail us for more details if you are interested.
Thursday House Group

What's in a name?  As we meet on a Thursday, I suppose we could be the Thursday House Group.  The group was started about 15 years ago, and has continued to meet on a fortnightly basis ever since, either in High Cross, or Bassaleg.

We start at 8.00pm with tea/ coffee and cake and catch up with everyone's news.  Our study, which lasts around an hour, is supported by the use of published guides.  The subjects range over study of individual books of the bible, themes from the bible, social issues and a follow-up course we called 'After Alpha', where issues arising from an Alpha Course could be discussed in greater depth.  We finish with more tea/ coffee and cake and chat about the study, what's going on in the church in the near future, or what we are doing ourselves.

Our group is drawn from all age ranges in the church, from 20 upwards, so, if you were to come along you should feel at home. Please take this as your invitation to join us - you'll be welcome.  You should be able to find out when we're next meeting in our church notices, or by emailing us. (To email please click here)
